Life Web cast

A web cast is purely a relay over the internet. The term was coined in the 1990s when the internet first progressed to take over the lives of persons throughout the world. Today a live webcast is there just about in every place you look on the internet. Most news outlets are now using video to report their news stories in its place of print. If you want a live webcast network, it is comparatively easy to do. You can merely get a digital camcorder and film your internet webcast. Then you can download the video into the computer and even exhibit it free on areas like You Tube as well as a number of other outlets. You can even use a free web casting to encourage a product or conduct an online seminar. Some people use this technology to educate a class. More and more colleges are using this technology to educate definite classes so that students can learn from their computers. This is the wave of the future and as camcorder prices have reached an all time low down, as have computers, we can expect additional video stars to come out of the woodwork.

n order to create a live web cast, you primarily need a script. You should also perform the script several times before filming. You want to make certain that it looks professional. While you may not desire to look stiff and rehearsed, you also do not want to be doubtful over words with "uh" and "um" every few seconds because it will turn off a viewer. You should have the camera on a tripod or some other still area. Someone holding it and filming you is going to give you insecure images and make your viewers faint. The camera should be motionless. Backgrounds should be nonaligned and background noise non existent. There are sound stages that you can hire or you can make your own. You want the webcast to look expert. Unless it is part of the video, noise and other distractions should be

Bookmark Free Reverse Phone Directories

Free reverse phone directories are handy every time we need to search for numbers that are not registered in our phone books. We resort to using these directories to satisfy our curiosity of determining the people behind the anonymous calls. Although not as reliable as the paid service, free directories of reverse phone number searching prove to be more accessible because you do not need to prepare your credit card or any other payment method for the service you are going to use.

One way of making your search of free reverse phone directories faster is to bookmark them. When we say bookmark, it means we create some sort of shortcut for faster access to a certain website. This way, when the said website is accessed again, you will no longer need to type in the URL. There is more than one way of bookmarking websites. One way is by accessing your Favorites menu of your browser. Menus are usually defaulted on top of the browser page, so you will see the Favorite menu somewhere on top. The moment you find the Favorites menu, drop it down or click it to show what is inside the Favorites menu. Click "Add to Favorites" and save the website by typing its name and choosing which folder you would want the website to be stored.

Another way of bookmarking free reverse phone directories is by clicking the Favorites icon. Just like the Favorites menu, the Favorites icon is also situated on top of the browser page just above the space where you type in URLs and just below the menus of your browser. After clicking the Favorites icon, it will create a little division to the left of your browser's page and it will show a little directory of folders where you can store the website. The manner in saving the website is just like the procedure that you do when saving using the Favorites menu, you name the bookmark then you select a folder where to save the website.

As soon as you are done bookmarking directories of free reverse search of phone numbers, all you need to do, should you access these sites in the future, is just go to your Favorites. It does not matter if you go to the Favorites menu or Favorites icon because it takes you to the same path anyway. Once you are there, you can then click your bookmark. And in just seconds, it will take you to your saved free reverse phone directories.

Call Centre

A call centre or call center (see spelling differences) is a centralized office used for the purpose of receiving and transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone. A call centre is operated by a company to administer incoming product support or information inquiries from consumers. Outgoing calls for telemarketing, clientele, and debt collection are also made. In addition to a call centre, collective handling of letters, faxes, and e-mails at one location is known as a contact centre.

A call centre is often operated through an extensive open workspace for call centre agents, with work stations that include a computer for each agent, a telephone set/headset connected to a telecom switch, and one or more supervisor stations. It can be independently operated or networked with additional centres, often linked to a corporate computer network, including mainframes, microcomputers and LANs. Increasingly, the voice and data pathways into the centre are linked through a set of new technologies called computer telephony integration (CTI).

Most major businesses use call centres to interact with their customers. Examples include utility companies, mail order catalogue firms, and customer support for computer hardware and software. Some businesses even service internal functions through call centres. Examples of this include help desks and sales support.

A call centre can be seen from an operational point of view as a queueing network. The simplest call centre, consisting of a single type of customers and statistically-identical servers, can be viewed as a single-queue. Queueing theory is a branch of mathematics in which models of such queueing systems have been developed. These models, in turn, are used to support work force planning and management, for example by helping answer the following common staffing-question: given a service-level, as determined by management, what is the least number of telephone agents that is required to achieve it. (

Queueing models also provide qualitative insight, for example identifying the circumstances under which economies of scale prevail, namely that a single large call centre is more effective at answering calls than several (distributed) smaller ones; or that cross-selling is beneficial; or that a call centre should be quality-driven or efficiency-driven or, most likely, both Quality and Efficiency Driven (abbreviated to QED). Recently, queueing models have also been used for planning and operating skills-based-routing of calls within a call centre, which entails the analysis of systems with multi-type customers and multi-skilled agents.

Call centre operations have been supported by mathematical models beyond queueing, with operations research, which considers a wide range of optimisation problems, being very relevant. For example, for forecasting of calls, for determining shift-structures, and even for analysing customers' impatience while waiting to be served by an agent.

Callback Service

The Callback Service is based on the principle whereby people are provided with an extension number that allows them to connect instantly with VoIP service providers. This call back service is made simple and convenient with its easy billing procedures.

Callback is possible in VoIP due to the presence of calling cards. This card can be purchased from any place of the world. The instant accessing of the card makes it possible to establish VoIP connection very easily. The user is motivated as the services offered by the VoIP service providers are known for their excellent facilities and high sound quality. This system of VoIP callback functions by means of access numbers. The access numbers are acquired by the customer from the service provider. This number enables users to access VoIP network at a reasonably cheap calling rate.
Virtual calling cards are known to provide international callback service with the best possible sound quality. The VoIP service thus can be accessed with all the latest facilities. The user of VoIP can make calls to people living at any place in the world. This callback service has its own methodology of functioning. There is a trigger number for the user to dial. Once the number is dialed the customer receives a call from the service provider. On receiving the call the users are instructed to dial the destination number. Once the number is dialed, it helps establish the connection. Once the call is over, the user now has to dial # in order to make a second call. This relieves people from the headache of making repeated calls to the service providers for the sake of making large number of calls at the same time. It is also a fact that on receiving a VoIP call the user need not have to pay for any call charge.
Justify Full
The callback system is integrated with some salient features. This method of call making is based on services like ANI, SMS and web based call back. The VoIP based communication system helps to route the message. Thus International Callback Service becomes easy with this system in place. Billing procedure is also simple in Voice over IP. The online billing portals allows users to pay their bills very conveniently.

The most fascinating thing about call back service is that it is not restricted to laptops or computers. Mobile phones or landline phones are brought to use in order to avail the service. The internet connection is always a pre-requisite for the availing of VoIP network. The user can also make use of the Internationa

Web Conference Service

Every day, more and more people enter online searching for a web conference service. Fortunately, they have from where to choose. Hundreds of websites present their offers for web conference system, along with the promise of being the best. Nevertheless, how do you know which one is the best for you and your conferencing needs? You should start by checking out their features and key benefits.

One of the main reasons why people are interested in using a web conference service is the need for efficient presentations. This affirmation is especially valid for those who work in marketing or advertising, needing a web conference system to present various products, concept and ideas. Given the remote access, such solutions are more and more preferred to host meetings with staff members and potential clients. For collaboration purposes and not only, a web conference service can increase the productivity of a company and lead to the faster completion of a project.
Why should you care about web conference system applications? For a number of reasons: efficient training, e-learning for customers and employees, working from home (tele-commuting) and online collaboration. The general idea is that a web conference service offers many prospects, connecting people in just a few seconds and offering the opportunity for enhanced information sharing. We can all understand why a web conference system saves both our time and our money. One can use such a service for interactive meetings but also for web seminars.

Interactive meetings offer attendees the advantage of sharing various information between them. At the same time, the presenter’s computer can be controlled by any of them. This type of web conference system is generally used by those who need to work in collaboration for a project or product presentation. Web seminars allow the attendee to view the desktop of the presenter’s computer but control is not offered. A professional web conference service supports both types of meetings, especially those that are based on the universal attendance technology. The greatest thing about such a web conference application is that it does not require software download and any meeting can be joined in less than a couple of seconds.

Laptop GPS Navigation Mounts & Holders

Have you ever given serious thought to the incredible benefits that having a truck laptop navigation system will bring to your life and your travels? The truth of the matter is that the more sophisticated systems on the market today provide much more than simple directions from point A to point B. Today's truck navigation systems are your one stop travel shop when it comes to finding points of interest, restaurants, fueling stops, and places to sleep along the way. In this article we will try to illustrate some of the benefits that a truck laptop gps system will provide.

If you've never given it much thought, perhaps learning a little more about how a truck gps navigation system really works will give you something to think about when you get around to considering the impact that a device such as this can make in your life and the lives of your family members. The thing to remember is that not all GPS or auto navigation mounting systems are created equal. There are different manners of creation along with different manners of functionality and design. However, they all work on very similar principles. For trucks, stability is the key as the suspension is slightly stiffer. The models created for pickups, heavy tubing, stiffer articulating arms, preferrably cast iron, will provide a stable desktop for your laptop and allow for serious gps work.

GPS systems use satellites that orbit the earth in order to send signals that are received by the GPS device. The system has software that interprets the signal and uses that data in order to form conclusions about the current location based on the time it took to receive the signal from the satellite, and the exact location of the satellite that sent the data. By combining that information a conclusion can be drawn by the GPS or auto navigation system as to the exact position of the GPS device. Three satellites are used in order to determine the point of intersection and a fourth satellite insures the accuracy of the data. This allows you to see on your screen exactly where you are, or where you want to go.

Navigation systems are more sophisticated and much more functional than the original military Global positioning devices that were used. These systems can be installed in your laptop computer, mounted to a professional laptop truck desk and your all set. You can not only get directions to guide you on your trip, to make up for detours, and get you back on track after wrong turns, but you can also get information about local destinations, rest stops and dining, hotels, service stations, and a few other points of interest along the way. Many pickup truck or car gps systems have upgrade packages that allow you to purchase a subscription which will provide you with up to the minute information about traffic, weather, and construction along your route. The subscription costs for these services can be a deterrent for the casual driver but will prove invaluable to those who rely on correct directions and being on time while traveling extensively through work related situations.

Be sure that whenever you purchase a GPS or truck navigation system that the system you purchase is not only full upgradeable but also easily upgraded. It does no good to have a system that is capable of being upgraded if you can't figure out how to upgrade it. Many of these systems can be upgraded by using a something as simple as a CD or DVD in order to deliver the information and upgrades. If you can't upgrade your system it will become obsolete in time as new roads are constantly being made and old roads are often closed for construction and upgrades. If you do not have the latest data on roads you are essentially driving just as blindly as you would be without an auto navigation system. This also applies to your desktop mounting system, be sure you can move the laptop mounting system from one truck to another, or at the least be able to get another base to install in the next truck.

Technology is constantly evolving and it is fairly safe to say that there are some vehicle accessories that are better suited to remain at the top than others. The story really is no different when it comes to GPS navigation systems and the mounting desks for the laptop. These systems each have different bells and whistles and while there is no one system that is perfect for everyone, there are a few systems that consistently outperform. Look for professional grade manufacturer's who use quality components, high end systems are sometimes warranted for 3 years, look for these quality made components, it will prove to be a good choice long term.

It is important that you as a consumer know what is available in navigational tools before leaping and buying the first thing you see. There are many neat buttons and features that can really turn a girls (or guys for that matter) head if she isn't sure of what she will actually need and use in her (or his) travels. Knowing what you need, what you would like, and what you are fairly certain you can live without will help you get the best possible bargain for your auto navigation system dollar. Mounting brackets to hold your laptop can be used for great versatility, the double as a dvd stand, a writing desk, camera stand and much more.

Crisis Communication

Crisis communications represent the supportive function to management and as such it is responsible for many quite stunning results in companies of Balkan republics in more than one different occasions. We could even go that far to claim that each separate situation that pops out in the media has got at least one professional communication advisor that assists the company in trouble operating through the information chaos. Possibly the crucial veer that issue management experts of the region are witnessing for some time is the change of issue management and PR business from minimizing the damage to preventing it from the start. All those signals are a proof that public relations and strategic communication business has nothing to fear for the future.

Which does not mean a reason for communication experts to lean back in self-satisfaction!
The field of strategic communication is facing prosperity, the market for experienced consultants on specific industry fields is anything but slow in the past few years. It is possible to fence that difficulties for small inexperienced communication companies are increasing.

Returtnig back to business crisis communication, regional expert on strategic communications Božidar Novak finds issue management consultants to be the strategic capital of issue management agency SPEM Komunikacijska skupina. Gps Tracking--the Smart Way To Protect Your Child

The new GPS tracking devices can now pick up signals that pass through a window and even the roof. So regardless if your child is inside a concrete building, parking garage, under a bridge or unconscious in heavy foliage, they can be quickly found, and if necessary, help rendered. And it is not only good to use if or when your child is snatched. Small children can easily wander off and get lost, not realizing the danger they are in. Or, if something were to happen and they were hurt, and because no one was around, a GPS tracking device would help parents to find them quickly and easily.

There are also a number of vehicle GPS tracking devices, which can not only be used to track a stolen vehicle, but also to monitor workforce productivity, and protect companies against time sheet fraud. These are great little affordable devices that can be a big help to small businesses with mobile work forces. They are also great for monitoring unauthorized use of company vehicles.

Easy to use and easy to install, these GPS tracking devices can be installed in a glove box, under a seat or they can be put into special waterproof magnetic cases and installed under the hood or just about anywhere under your vehicle. And tracking is so simple that you can do it from any internet based computer.

Comparing JDBC Drivers

While creating JDBC applications, developers mainly start with JDBC-ODBC Bridge to connect to databases. But when an application reaches some advanced stage, for example, when it needs to support multithreading, the JDBC-ODBC Bridge poses a few problems. That's when the need arises for a robust JDBC driver. Here the type of driver depends on some parameters: whether the application is Web or Intranet based, whether it needs to support heterogeneous databases, the number of concurrent users, and etc.

JDBC driver type 2 - the native-API/partly Java driver - converts JDBC calls into database-specific calls for databases such as SQL Server, Informix, Oracle, or Sybase. The type 2 driver communicates directly with the database server; therefore it requires that some binary code be present on the client machine. The main advantage of type 2 JDBC drivers is they typically offer significantly better performance than the JDBC-ODBC Bridge. However, The vendor database library needs to be loaded on each client machine. Consequently, type 2 drivers cannot be used for the Internet and for website development services. Type 2 drivers show lower performance than type 3 and type 4 drivers.

JDBC driver type 3 - the net-protocol/all-Java driver - follows a three-tiered approach whereby the JDBC database requests are passed through the network to the middle-tier server. The middle-tier server then translates the request (directly or indirectly) to the database-specific native-connectivity interface to further the request to the database server. If the middle-tier server is written in Java, it can use a type 1 or type 2 JDBC driver to do this. The net-protocol/all-Java driver is server-based, so there is no need for any vendor database library to be present on client machines. Further, there are many opportunities to optimize portability, performance, and scalability so important for WWW use and especially for website development companies. Moreover, the net protocol can be designed to make the client JDBC driver very small and fast to load. Additionally, a type 3 driver typically provides support for features such as caching (connections, query results, and so on), load balancing, and advanced system administration such as logging and auditing. From the other side, Type 3 drivers require database-specific coding to be done in the middle tier. Additionally, traversing the recordset may take longer, since the data comes through the backend server.

Tips On Choosing The Best High Speed Internet Provider

The first step to finding the best Internet provider for a high speed connection is to determine who offers service in your area. Since not all Internet providers offer service in every area, it is a good idea to first call around and determine what your choices are with regard to providers. From that point you can narrow down the options to the best choice for high speed connections.

Determine the Best Internet Provider With Regard to Plan Offerings
When switching to a high speed connection or selecting a new Internet provider for your computer's high speed connection you will have to peruse the plan offerings of various companies to determine which one is the best for your Internet needs. Within each high speed connection category you will come across various package options and you will have to narrow down the choices based on which package looks the best. This is another way to help you choose the best technology provider for your high speed Internet.

Figure Out Which Company Offers a Desirable Plan for the Best Price
You will also undoubtedly come across high speed plans which are similar in nature between the companies yet be different prices. Therefore, the best thing to do is determine which type of high speed package you wish to obtain and then call around to the different companies to see who offers the best deal on that desired Internet package. After all, who wants to pay more for an Internet package offered by one company when it is offered for a lesser price by another company? Shopping around for the best price is a wise thing to do in order to save money in the end.

Look at What the Company Offers in Addition to the Package Itself
Lastly, when shopping for an Internet provider which offers high speed connections you must also consider what the company offers their customers in addition to the package itself. In other words, factors such as customer service skills, availability of company representatives, technological advancements being made by the company and extra benefits offered by the provider should all be things considered when choosing your high speed Internet provider.

The Many Features Of Videoconferencing

Software enabling desktop collaboration usually is comprised of a subset of several applications. A central application serves as a launcher for this suite of tools. In addition to video and audio conferencing, four basic categories of tools may be included.

Electronic whiteboards are modeled on actual conference room whiteboards. The whiteboard appears on the screen of each conference participant. Each participant can type or draw on the board, highlight, or even load a graphic or document on the background of the whiteboard. Some systems have the ability to store multiple pages that can be accessed when needed. There is a zoom control, pointers, graphing capabilities and shape makers.

Once information is on the whiteboard, you can modify it, circle it, or highlight it. You also can highlight or circle areas on pictures, draw on them, and add text to them. You and the other participants can highlight or draw on the whiteboard at the same time.

If you want to have the other participants see the contents of the whiteboard but not allow them to modify them, there is a lock function that allows you to prevent the others from highlighting or drawing on the whiteboard. Used in this way, the whiteboard serves as a sort of overhead.

Application sharing allows two or more participants of a videoconference to interact with a software program that is running on only one machine. This means that the other participants can see a file that is open on your computer even if they do not have the software used for that file on their machines. Application sharing is a vital part of videoconferencing, allowing collaboration much in the same way as person-to person allows.

For example, a team leader can run a word processing program to edit a document that the team is co-editing. The team members establish a data conference. The person who is running the program on his computer then selects the option to share a running application.

A copy of the document, complete with the editing icons, appears on the other participants screens. Any of the team members can insert or modify text in the document. The team leader has the option to stop sharing at any time. Application sharing can also be used for spreadsheet entry, programming, or development of slide shows.

File transfer (FTP) software is a tool that has been used by collaborators from the earliest days of personal computing. You can send files to every person involved in a videoconference. While most PC users have installed an FTP client, they often do not have an FTP server running on their machine.

The server is what allows the client to connect and request files. Many videoconferencing applications include both an FTP client and a server, thus eliminating the need to run a separate FTP server. Be advised, however, that there are certain security risks involved in any file transfer.

what suits you DIRECTV vs Dish Network

With this comparative approach, you have access to a rating of prices, services, installation time, freebies, availability of foreign and local channels and equipment. Although Direct TV has more customers than Dish Network, when comparing consumer rating of Direct TV vs Dish Network, the latter wins.

When it comes to prices, you should know that you have several packages to choose from with different channels available. Dish Network has offers starting for $19.99, which is a lot cheaper than the offers of DIRECT. On the other hand, Direct TV offers you 4 months free of 30 premium movie channels, while its rival only offers free 3 months on one movie channel of your choice.

The battle Direct TV vs Dish Network does not depend only on prices and freebies. You should make sure you read about which programs you can find exclusively at only one of these providers. If you are not careful, you just may realize that your favorite sports match is exclusively available with the other provider.

If you are looking for advice on what to get, you could check out customer reviews on specialized websites. In this way, you can find out what problems you might expect and what advantages other people see in these companies. Most of the people who write reviews have tried both services. They will generally recommend the better one. This can help you choose.

If you do not research the Direct TV vs Dish Network offers, and you just flip a coin, you may get a nasty surprise. Some packages and extra options offer foreign channels, particularly Spanish ones and it would be a good idea to get local channels as well.

Watching TV is the preferred relaxation option for millions of people every night, when they come back from work. Too tired to go out, most nights you may just prefer to spend a quiet evening in front of the TV watching a good movie or checking out the news or the latest music videos.

There is also an equipment battle at the DIRECTV vs Dish Network level, as both companies try to offer cheap devices that are also fit for many uses. You can get a Tivo or a dish DVR to record programs while you are not home, which you can play back later at a time of your convenience.

The DIRECTV vs Dish Network competition is real and it appears it will continue. Direct TV has been around for a longer time and has more customers. On the other hand, Dish Network ranks higher in customer polls and has cheaper starting prices. For an accurate and complete view on the offers available, check out these comparisons for real customer reviews.

Six Ways to Get Along Better

1. Sidle. People are more likely to like each other, remember more of what they discuss, and agree when they "sidle," standing or sitting side by side, rather than facing each other.
Two women or a man and a woman are more likely to face each other. They literally "face off". Two men instinctively sidle. Siddling brings people "in sync." Walking and talking gets you further connected. The best time to resolve issues is while walking together to the meeting, not when you are in the meeting, sitting across from each other.

2. Look for the underlying issue. When you are arguing for more than ten minutes, you are probably not discussing the real conflict and are thus unlikely to get it resolved in the discussion. Look for the underlying issue. Read Robert Bromson's Dealing With Difficult People for ideas about how to recognize difficult behaviors and ways to respond to them.

3. Detect lying earlier. When lying, most people can put an innocent expression on their face when you ask them a question about the topic, yet few (except pathological liars) get the right timing or duration of that expression. Ignore the expression itself when they respond but note whether they appear to put it on too soon or too late and if the duration of the expression seems off. Here your instincts will often guide you to knowing their truthfulness.

4. Come back to your scents. Since smell is the most directly emotional sense, bypassing much of the brain's thinking process, consider how to introduce positively natural and uplifting scents into your environment as your own "sane self-indulgence." A naturally scented environment refreshs people, so they feel uplifted. That's why outlets as diverse as the Rainforest Cafe, Sahara Vegas Casino, Disney/Epcot Home of the Future and San Francisco Aquarium have created natural "signature scents" to avoid allergic reactions while refreshing those they serve.

5. Be vividly specific. A specific detail or example proves a general conclusion, not the reverse. A vivid, specific detail is memorable, while a general statement is less credible and easily forgotten. Ironically, most adult conversation and advertising is general. Children are more likely to be vividly specific and thus more memorable. vivid as "cobalt blue."

6. Be "plainly clear." Avoid wearing patterned clothing or other detail on your clothing, especially on the upper half of the body, because it will shorten the attention span of the person with whom you are speaking.

Comparing the Best Social Network Software

A software package that is only $20 is certainly not going to be as good as software that is $20,000 but the majority of people simply cannot afford to fork over the $20,000. Plus stop and consider how many people are really going to be using your site, if you are only looking at a few people then there is no reason at all why you should pay that much for the best social network software available, you are not going to need it.

If you are only needing something for approximately 100 users or less you should typically stick to lower priced
software packages. However, imagine the outcry that would happen if MySpace stopped allowing users to share video and pictures. The number of users that they have would make it quite difficult to not offer those services without upsetting a large number of users. Yet the majority of users on very small sites do not expect these types of services. This comes back into the issue of how many users you plan to support realistically with your social network site. If you are planning on creating the best social network, you are going to need the best social network software possible.

You simply could not operate a site that is the best using mediocre
software. The options that are available can seem very overwhelming, but by comparing all of the features that are listed with each potential program you can generally determine which is the best choice within your realistic budget. Remember, over paying for software is not a wise decision, you should purchase the best social network software that you can afford that will still fit into your needs and provide you with the basic services that you need.

Typically websites continue to grow and develop over time, this means you have the ability to later as your budget can allow add additional tools that your users will appreciate.
There are times when creating the perfect site using the best social network software means building your site a small piece at a time. There is nothing wrong with this method and most of the major websites are actually created this way. If you wait until the entire site is perfect, you are likely to never get it open. Bug testing alone can last for several months if not longer, however most users are willing to work around bugs as long as they know that active development is under way. Plus the best social network software will generally be very stable and have very few bugs making it perfect for a much faster launch. Your dream site may not be what you initially start out with, but finding the best social network software that is within your budget is possible.

You should be prepared to spend at least a week comparing all of the options within a price range that you feel comfortable paying. One consideration that you should always remember is you should never be forced to take out a second mortgage or even a loan in order to pay for the
software that you want. If you cannot afford the software, find a cheaper version that will still provide you with the results you need. Pricing is a very important consideration when you are looking for the best social network software.

How To Start A Website: The Basic Guide

Step 1 - Why
Before you do anything, you'd better know why you need to be online. Are you planning a full e-commerce endeavor or just an online advertising brochure? The answer to this will determine the entire scope of your project and should be considered carefully. If you decide now and change your mind later, you'll have to begin the whole planning process again. Be informed and know what you plan to do.

Step 2 - Outline
Now that you know why you're going online, you should begin a general outline and begin brainstorming ideas amongst your partners and affiliates. Set down a rough estimate of the number of pages the site will have, decide the basic style you'd like to achieve, and list every idea you have for the site (outlandish or ordinary).

Step 3 - Rough Draft
Take the list you created in Step 2 and refine it. Mark each item as being "necessary", "valuable", or as a "perk". If you don't know how an item qualifies, it's not "necessary" and therefore is one of the other two. Only items that you MUST have for the site to exist should be listed as necessary. Items such as "logo", "brochure content," "contact info," etc. are considered "necessary." Items such as "email form," "graphical interface," and "product catalog" are "valuable." "Flash animation," "automated link-through-systems," and "really cool graphics" are "perks."

Step 4 - Begin Shopping
If you have a small budget, your list of necessary items is fairly small, and you do not see anything on your list which appears complicated or unusual for a website, then just about any good and reputable designer will suffice. In this case, you should shop by price and service instead of portfolio and pizzazz.

Step 5 - Domain Names
Choosing a domain name is a very important step in getting yourself online. A domain name to your online presence is as important as a name for your business was when you first began. Careful consideration and a lot of thought should be given to your choice of domain. www.yourbusiness.com is a good start. Go to http://www.register.com or any other domain registration site that offers "whois" service (most of them do) and put in your desired domain name. Don't register it yet if it's available, just check. Many of these services also include a list of "suggested alternatives." Look through them; sometimes something you hadn't considered will pop up!

Step 6 - Initial Designs
Unless your site is very simple and you were extremely prepared in the beginning (probably having done this before), you will have to have your site built in stages. Each stage should be thoroughly considered for every aspect of the site thus far. Check the navigability, the color scheme, the general look and feel, will it sell product or get customers interested, etc. Be sure to spend a lot of time with your designer to discuss these attributes and what you like and dislike. Print the pages of the site out (at least the main page for each section, if it's large) and write and sketch on them to show changes to graphics, text, and whatever else. Write up a detailed list of changes you'd like to see made and present that to your designer. Your designer will not be resentful of this-- don't worry about stepping on toes. This only makes his or her job easier!

such a thing as a Small Business Technologist

What every small-to-medium business needs sometimes is their own IT Help Desk - only more helpful. Is it only us, or do other people dream about having someone come to their office to evaluate their setup? Someone to say, ‘Hey, you could do that a much easier way.’ Someone to make your computers run faster, who could even move offices for you, ensuring that your phone and internet connections were set up without your lifting a receiver.

Are we just dreaming or does this kind of business already exist? In Tasmania? There must be some cross-bred geeks who have technology skills and people skills too. Unless they’ve been ruthlessly eradicated for talking too much at LAN parties.
Business opportunity anyone?
